2019 Annual Gala

About the Gala

Type Media Center’s annual gala took place on December 10th, 2019 in New York City.

In addition to hosting a dinner and a variety of speakers, we use the gala as a venue to award the Puffin Prize for Creative Citizenship, an annual $100,000 award given to an individual who has challenged the status quo through courageous, distinctive, and socially responsible work. The prize is intended to encourage the recipients to continue their work, and previous winners have included Colin Kaepernick, Amy Goodman, and the Parkland students who founded March for Our Lives.

This year, we awarded the prize to the Sunrise Movement, with an introduction from Cynthia Nixon. Josie Duffy Rice served as our MC and Alexis McGill Johnson, Acting President and CEO of Planned Parenthood delivered the keynote.
